This is the first of several announcements we’ll be making throughout the end of this calendar year, so please watch this space for more as the weeks pass. This first announcement applies to our digital goods only. Please read on…
and here is why
As of 1 January, 2015, Hadean Press will no longer sell digital goods (ebooks and pdf’s) on our website. By that date, they will also have vanished from Amazon. There are two separate issues behind these decisions. First, on 1 January 2015, the Digital VAT Directive (an extension of Directive 2008/8/EC) comes into force and quite simply, Hadean Press will not comply. Read a brief overview of the changes businesses, large and small, face in the new year in this post by the CEO of Taxamo and then, if you are a small publisher selling digital goods directly to your readers, dig deeper and discover how the directive affects you.
Over the next few days, our ebooks will also begin to vanish from Amazon. We are moving our digital titles to a new distributor, one which will feed them through online sellers such as iBooks, Kobo, and other markets we have not yet reached. As we make this transition, there will be a period of time in which our ebooks will be wholly unavailable. We’ll try to keep this downtime as short as possible, and we apologise in advance for the temporary inconvenience, but in the end we believe this move will benefit our authors and customers both.
We will not be converting the above titles, so this is the last time these pdf’s will be available for sale.
Again, this does not affect our print titles (at least not yet). Those, too, will be going on sale, but we’ll announce that in a separate post, and we will close out the year with a general update regarding life, the universe, and everything else here at House Hadean.
As always, we thank you for your continued support of Hadean Press.
