Hadean Press was founded in the spring of 2008 in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. In October of 2008 we attended, as Hadean Press, the Thelemic Symposium in Oxford. It was there we discussed what would become our first publication, The Equinox: British Journal of Thelema VII 9, which was released in March of 2009. The rest, as they say, is history, and by now we have customers in over one hundred countries and friends from all over the world. We have become, to our great surprise and delight, a well known and respected press. It was therefore something of a shock to discover that another esoteric/occult publisher had decided, in April of 2017, to claim the name Hadean for their own.
On the 1st of May, we made the following statement on our Facebook page:
Do not confuse us for the newly established Hadean Pty Ltd operating out of Australia, which is the name under which Numen Books and Manticore Press has merged as of 3 April 2017.
I’m sure most of you won’t confuse the two presses, considering we’ve been publishing since 2008, but if you have any questions please feel free to get in touch.
Dis made a few comments on the Numen Books Facebook page which have since been deleted. He expressed our concern at their lack of due diligence. No remorse was shown. Instead, they accused us of sending people to harass and troll them.
By now all comments on Numen Books facebook page have been deleted, but you can get a glimpse of what was said here in this screenshot, taken 4 May 2017, of their twitter feed (click to enlarge):
Here is the accusation, quoted from the feed:
“Unfortunately, since incorporating, we have been continually harassed by some obscure occult business…”
We would like to strongly stress that we have not harassed Hadean Pty Ltd in any manner, nor do we intend to harass them or anyone else. While it is true that we are dismayed by this turn of events, we strive to maintain a level of professionalism in a field that is often sorely lacking in it. Our history in this field is our testament to how we operate and while we have made mistakes along the way, attacking people has not been one of them. Nor has infringing upon anyone’s intellectual property, or indeed upon anyone’s will.
We are the original Hadean Press. Impostors might come and go, but we will remain for as long as I draw breath.
