End of year update: looking back and forward

Love, peace, and joy from the Hadeans.

Hadean Press will be closed for the holidays from 20 December through 7 January, though we will continue to work behind the scenes to prepare for the year ahead and to catch up on things missed in the year behind.

2023 was a personally difficult year as we navigated the loss of two dear friends along with health issues which prevented Erzebet from working at full capacity for the latter half of the year. However, 2023 also saw some wonderful things happen, including the move to new business premises and the opening of Miss Lollipop’s Bookshop, which has received a warm welcome from everyone who has visited. We are currently getting Papa Hemlock up and running properly, too, making it a space from which all good things will flow in 2024. We are excited by what the new year will bring, and ready to leave the old one behind.

Our first order of business in 2024 will be the opening of pre-orders for Night School volume 2: Cyprian’s Offices of Spirits. We intend to release this as a standalone book, and additionally in a very limited box set with volume 1, The Sworn and Secret Grimoire. Pre-orders will open on 18 January, a year and a day after Jake Stratton-Kent joined the ranks of the beloved dead. At that time, we will also be offering a selection of Jake’s magical items through private sale. All things concerning Night School are being done in accordance with Jake’s wishes, and the sale of his personal items is happening at the instruction of the inheritor of the bulk of his estate.

We will also hold an estate sale of books from the library of Nigel Fisher, another friend who is now feasting in Valhǫll. This one will commence as soon as we re-open in January. There are rare first edition books and pamphlets, and a number of standard paperbacks, in various conditions.

Following this we look forward to the release of Book of Shadows Or The Book Of Spirits (Liber Umbrarum Vel Liber Spirituum), an English translation by Steve Savedow of the Italian edition, and then a translation of L’Arte Magique or The Magical Art by Aaman Lamba. Additionally, we have at least five new Guides to the Underworld to add to our collection throughout the first half of the year. We will be posting the full 2024 schedule when we return in January.

As this calendar years draws to a close, Dis and I extend our heartfelt thanks to the Hadean family, both near and far, and to everyone who has purchased our books or taken the time to let us know how much we are appreciated. We wish you all love, peace, and joy in the new year.
