Conjure Codex III (pdf)

Once more Conjure Codex is full to bursting with insights and revelations, presenting us with sorceries and wisdom from a range of cultures and eras. Starting with a new look at the most influential spirit catalogue of modern conjure from yours truly, we are then invited to get down to the nitty gritty of dirt sorcery with Al Cummins whose presentations online are becoming legendary. Manly X. Hammer’s examination of the roots and variants of the so called Goetic Triangle is is a comprehensive re-examination of this familiar but misunderstood topic; I certainly hope to see more from this writer in future. Indeed this issue is worth having for this alone.

“The Mysterious Waters of Olokun” is Nicholaj de Mattos Frisvold’s insightful contribution to this issue, appropriate to its element. His work should be familiar to all our readers, and we are delighted to include more from him. Another voice I hope to hear more from in future is Darren Scriven, whose analysis of the Heptameron’s Spirits of the Air of Thursday makes excellent use of sources and casts a rather different light on this subject. Another welcome return to these pages is Humberto Maggi, who gives us an excellent study of the arch sorcerer Doctor Faust, tracing the origins and development of his art.

With all this, issue three is not done with you yet. José Leitão, author of the brilliant Book of Saint Cyprian brings his intellect and wit to these pages again. Madeleine le Despencer writes on one of the most important herbs of traditional magic, and we close with an examination of Meso-American traditions by Verónica Rivas. As before the quality and quantity of material is of astonishing standard, so that some readers find it hard to believe there have only been two previous issues. With that, welcome to the third!
